The annual Homeless World Cup is a football tournament with a purpose.
And at Africa-Experience, we are proud to sponsor Oasis and Team South Africa to attend the 2025 event in Oslo, Norway.
First held in Austria in 2003, this transformative event takes place each year in one of the seventy member countries. It aims to offer homeless individuals new horizons, help them acquire skills, and positively impact their lives.
The tournament features a thrilling 14-minute, four-a-side format with rolling substitutes from an 8-man squad. Fans can watch these inspiring matches on FIFA+, FIFA’s free streaming platform.
The Homeless World Cup inspired creativity beyond the pitch; “The Beautiful Game,” a Netflix film, tells the uplifting story of the English team, with members of the South African squad taking on roles as extras.
Mark your calendars for the 2025 tournament, set to unfold in Oslo, Norway, from August 23rd to 30th at the iconic Rådhusplassen (City Hall Square), where every player’s journey is celebrated and their stories shine bright.

Behind every impactful project lies inspiring individuals, and Cliffy Martinus is the inspiring man behind the South African team.
Cliffy’s upbringing in a Cape Town township fuelled his passion for uplifting those in similar communities. In 2000, alongside his wife Anthea, he founded Oasis, a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of people living in Cape Town’s townships.
Cliffy affectionately describes Oasis as a ‘home’ where family values are not just taught but lived. This supportive setting accommodates approximately 100 people from various social issues, such as homelessness.

Each resident embarks on a ‘flight programme’ with specific milestones guiding them towards independent living. While some thrive in this supportive setting for a year, others grow and build skills for up to three to four years.
Beyond its residential facilities, Oasis features a vibrant vegetable garden, a welding bay, and a football pitch, offering essential platforms for skill development and personal growth.
Cliffy Martinus exemplifies how one person’s commitment to community upliftment can ignite change, and these values inspired Africa-Experience.

Oasis hosts annual trials in collaboration with NGOs nationwide to select the South African team from individuals engaged in local NGO programmes.
Each participant has the opportunity to demonstrate their talent and determination.
